Pirate Talk 101: First Part - Greetings & Partings

Next week I will be pirating at Night at the Southern Museum in Kennesaw. In honor of this event, I decided to do a Pirate Talk Primer in multiple parts.

We will begin with common Greetings & Partings. These phrases can be used when meeting or departing from other pirates. “Words of parting should be offered without expectation of reciprocity. Corpses cannot talk. Dead men bid no farewells.”

Pirate

Translation

All my duty to you.

I give you my respects/my best.

Be that you?

Is that you?

By your leave.

Excuse me / Beg your pardon / Good-bye

Fair winds and following seas.

A parting to wish another well.

Fortune with you and yours.

A parting - May fortune be your companion.

Heave ahead.

Come in / Move ahead

Here our ways divide.

Here we go our separate ways.

Here’s luck and a fair wind to you.

Greeting and Parting

Ho there.

Hello there.

How are you called?

What is your name?

How fares your day?

How is your day going?

How is’t with you?

How are you doing?

I be …

My name is….

It’s a very good day/night I be wishing you.

Parting

Speak me of yourself.

Tell me about yourself.

Speak me your tidings.

Tell me how you are doing.

Tell what’s chanced you.

What have you been up to?

What be your name?

What is your name?

What do you here?

What are you doing here?

What might you call yourself?

What is your name?

What would you have?

What do you want?

What’s your trouble?

What’s bothering you?

Who be you?

Who are you?

You come in a fair breeze.

You came at a good time.

This primer was summarized from the book "The Pirate Primer: Mastering the Language of Swashbucklers and Rogues" by George Choundas and available here.

The Pirates of the Black Bunny are SAFE!

...but not so sure about those Somolia Pirates. My buddy Zach at the Hockey Cop Blog linked to this article about Pirate Hunting Cruises!

Luckily, this crew is more about the rum and much less about the AK-47's!

Rock -n- Roll Monster Bash 2009

The place to be last Sunday was at The Rock -n- Roll Monster Bash at the Starlight Drive-In.

It was a congregation of Atlanta subcultures; punk, rock-a-billy, horror, tattoo, biker, hot rod and more. For me it was a chance to go out for a day with the hubby and see good friends and just enjoy being in the element.

We arrived around 1:30 and commandeered a spot for the tent. We came prepared; tent, chairs, fans, cooler, lots o'water and lunch. Here was our glorious taj mahal.

Note our neighbors - the silver Miata to the right. They had a wonderful raspberry vodka soaked, ice cold watermelon. Yum! It was a very friendly crowd.

One of the cooler things there were all the different vehicles; from vintage to novelty, two-wheeled to four-wheeled. I didn't take nearly enough pictures to do justice to all of them. As I was leaving the vendors area, these two came by...

The DEAD ENDS HOT ROD HEARSE CLUB was out in force. They even had a Ghost Buster's car but my favorite was the Taxi Cab hearse! We were lucky enough to be camped out right behind the club.

The Monster Bash was sponsored by the Silver Scream Spook Show so Prof. Morte and his band played a few sets.

I found this around the corner from the stage. It is one of the prop pieces from the the H2 Phantom Jam scene in Newborn.

Of course, no event is complete without some Star Wars thrown in and just to think, we weren't even responsible for it...

But what made the entire event worth while was seeing old friends and making new ones.

Trivia Night

Disgrace! Who the hell knows the top five hits on Michael Jackson's Bad Album and if you do, I don't want to hear about it!

"shave your balls and wear a thong"

Thank you Alex and good night!

Rock -n- Roll Monster Bash

Darrell and I have gotten a slew of invites this year for the Rock -n- Roll Monster Bash at the Starlight Six Drive-In. Looks like a lot of fun. Let me know if anyone else is going. Anyone??
